FELT ÖTZTAL X-BIONIC Worldcup Team with bad luck in Heubach – Reis ranked second in Offenburg
Reis on place 2 after sprint
It came down to a sprint finish on the 48 km course at the Worldclass Mountainbike Marathon Challenge on Sunday. A trio with Manfred Reis started the battle with 500 m to the finish line in the city of Offenburg cheered on by thousands of spectators. In the end, only two tenths of a second separated the three riders. Finally Martin Siefermann was the lucky winner before Manfred Reis and Julian Schwendemann. Reis however was not happy with the decision: “I am sure that I was first over the finish line. Martin even congratulated me", said the disappointed U23 champion from Germany at the finish. The judges had to rely on the results of the transponder.
Women in the Top 10

Because of the highly persistent rain in Heubach the second round of the German National series was extremely exhausting. Blaza Klemencic resolved to ride for a podium rank and was close to the the leading group at the beginning of the last lap. After a crash over the handlebars she had to run to the Technical Zone. In the end she crossed the finish line as seventh and was one rank in front of her French teammate Sabrina Enaux. Annika Langvad from Denmark took the victory before Anja Gradl (GER) and Emily Batty from Canada.
Scheiber injured his ankle
With his strong performances at the World Cup races in Houffalize and in Dalby Forest the Austrian U23 champion Simon Scheiber had shown that he had recovered from his recent ligament injury. After an unfortunate action during the race in Heubach Scheiber twisted his ankle again and had to pull out with a swollen ankle. A sports medical examination this week should now clarify how badly the ligaments are injured, and whether Scheiber is able to start at the World Cup in Offenburg on 22./23. May. Paul van der Ploeg (AUS), in the short race on Saturday at number five, had problems with the deep underground in Heubach and landed on rank 29 in the U23 competition. Karl Markt (AUT) finished on rank 29 in the elite class with about 11 minutes behind double Olympic champion Julien Absalon (FRA), who won before Belgian Roel Paulissen and Jose Antonio Hermida (ESP).
Next weekend, the third World Cup of the season takes place in Offenburg. Let`s hope that the team recovers fast and is able to attack in the home race on German soil the upcoming weekend.
