World Cup in Val di Sole (ITA) - Karl Markt with his best result in the current season
Klemencic shows fighting spirit
Maja Wloszczowska won the women`s race in the Italian Val di Sole last weekend. Started from grid 21, the Pole has beaten Catharine Pendrel (CAN) and world champion Irina Kalentieva from Russia. Sabrina Enaux from FELT ÖTZTAL X-BIONIC Worldcup Team once again showed a consistent performance and finished the race in 30th place. In the world cup rankings the Frenchwoman remains her outstanding 21st place. Blaza Klemencic had bad luck right after the start when a competitor damaged the rear derailleur of the Slowenian. After her front derailleur also made problems she was ranked 48th after startloop. In the following laps Klemencic fought back and managed to cross the finish line on position 17.
Markt on rank 26
Once again, the Swiss Nino Schurter won a race against Julien Absalon (FRA) in the final sprint. In addition to his second world cup victory of the season, Schurter also took the lead in the UCI world cup ranking. Third was the winner of Champéry Florian Vogel from Switzerland. Simon Scheiber had big problems with his chain on the first meters of the race, so that he finished the startloop with a lag of almost one minute to the rest of the field. All efforts of the team mechanic Geri Schrempf in the tech zone were of no avail and Scheiber had to get off very early.
Despite a weak start - Markt was ranked 71st after startloop - the Austrian caught up place by place and achieved his best world cup result of the season with rank 26. "Finally a world cup race where everything was perfect. After startloop I felt very good and knew that I will ride a strong race”, Markt summarized after the race at the team stand.
The upcoming weekend the MTB Marathon World Championships take place in Sankt Wendel (GER). The sixth and last world cup then takes place in Windham (USA) at the end of august.
