Martinez 3rd in opening Internazionali d'Italia XC; McConvey takes U23 Win
Città di Montichiari (ITA) - With a third place for Miguel Martinez (FRA) in the pro/elite "Internazionali d'Italia" in Montichiari, and the third consecutive victory of Connor McConvey (IRL - left) in the U23 category, the FELT International Team posted an impressive early season performance. On the same day, teammate Paolo Alberati (ITA) also achieved a important win in his home race with a track record in the "Granfondo Castello di Monteriggioni."
On of the most decorated professional mountain bike riders ever, Miguel Martinez was pleased to return to the podium after such a long break and this result confirmed his goal of top-10 in the UCI overall ranking is realistic. "I'm very much satisfied with the contest today, in which I also have been able to verify my new method of training, after the first two contests in Tuscany and this third place today, I had the confirmation of being returned to the levels of when I left the mountain bike scene."
1. Ivan Alvarez Gutierrez - 1.41.48
2. Julien Absalon - at 0.36
3. Miguel Martinez - at 1.00
Connor McConvey, 18th overall and winner in the U23 category was happy with the victory, but not necessarily completely pleased with his overall performance "I did not have my best day...some stomach problems kept me from drinking as usual and so I did get very tired at the second half of the race."
In the pro/elite women's race Felt athlete Blaza Klemencic (SLO) took 4th, just 1.29 back on the final winning time.
In his victory in the "Granfondo Castello di Monteriggioni", Paolo Alberati beat the old track record by more than five minutes and set another powerful mark. "To win in Monteriggioni for a Tuscanian biker is like for a Flandrian boy to win in his Tour of Flandres: the race of home. Really for me and other my competitors this was a very important race, the most important of first part of season."
