Martin On a Roll, Wins in Italy
Italy — Daniel Martin scored a brilliant win in Italy on Tuesday to give the Garmin-Transitions team two major victories in one day. Martin, who turns 24 on Friday, followed teammate Svein Tuft’s ProTour stage win at the Eneco Tour with a solo victory at the Tre Valli Varesine one-day race in Italy.

Martin broke away with Domenico Pozzovivo one kilometer before the finish of the 199-kilometer race and then dropped the Italian to take the win by 6 seconds. It was the latest breakthrough for the young Irishman, who also won a stage at the recent Tour of Poland and finished third overall at July’s Brixia Tour in Italy.
